"It has been many months in the making, but it is official, that Yma Sumac will receive Peru's highest honor, La Orden Del Sol award in early May 2006. She will return to Peru after several years absence, to accept it. This particular award has ONLY EVER BEEN presented to Kings and selected officials in the past. It was first given to General Jose San Martin in 1821. It seems that while Miss Sumac is in Peru, several other awards will be presented to her, as well.
